What is your Energy Level?

Our energy level changes during our day and depending on how we handle the unplanned and unpredictable events, it can really get depleted very quickly.

Dr Heidi Hanna defines "Stress is any demand for energy that is greater than capacity".

In her book, Recharge, she explains "Our relationship with stress is determined by our energy capacity, our ability to recover and recharge our energy throughout the day, and our perception of our experience." Page 50.

Understanding how the demand for energy increases constantly as the day progresses, adopting the suggestions on her Recharge Tool Kit is a great step to keep our mind focus and maintain the energy levels up.

When our energy level is down, our response to the events around us become more primitive and the assertiveness of our decisions decreases.

To keep up, schedule active breaks during the day and start and end your day with a positive note.

Here my top 5 recharge techniques from her list:

  • Act of kindness. A simple call to someone you hadn't spoken for a while counts.

  • Thank you note. Send a message to anyone who has inspired you today.

  • Meditation. Any kind of meditation practice, brings a lot of energy to your body and mind. Look for the one you feel more comfortable with. It is not about the time, but about doing it.

  • Watch or read something that makes you laugh. Laughing generates chemicals in our body that are source of energy.

  • Exercise. There is no need for a full workout, take 5 minutes walk around the block, stretching away from your work area or any kind of physical moment.

Log your recharge training, keeping a healthy amount of energy is key to achieve your goals and generate a creative space.
